I slapped together this hexagon magnetic sculpture on the bench and it actually moves – wobbling, spinning, and trying to find balance with nothing but magnetic energy in the middle. Not a motor, not levitation, just a cool sculpture that shows what happens when you let the forces fight it out.

The whole thing sits on a pillow so it can shake and spin freely. Some ring magnets lift the disc while others pull it. There's a lot of weight but you can see it trying to stabilize, making noise and wobbling until I give the six-sided part a spin.

From the bench
I started with ring magnets arranged in a hexagon pattern. The center uses a disc setup where the magnets interact with a central pole. Two discs are sandwiched together but their holes don't always line up, which causes it to go off-center pretty easily. I went back and adjusted it quite a few times. The whole sculpture rests on a pillow so the base doesn't fight the motion. When I spin the six-sided part it wants to keep moving, though the other side is less cooperative. It makes a bunch of noise while it's trying to stabilize.
How it works / what we changed
The ring ones are lifting while the disc is set up so the others are pulling. That combination creates the wobble and the attempt at stabilization. There's real weight on it but the magnetic energy in that pole in the middle keeps trying to find equilibrium. I added a little extra weight at one point to see if I could get more force out of it. Sometimes it rests quietly, other times it spins and vibrates. I didn't change much mechanically – mostly just kept recentering the discs when they wandered.
Meaning of magnetic energy
The meaning of magnetic energy here is the invisible push and pull that never quite settles. You see it trying to stabilize a heavy setup, creating motion and noise without any electricity or motor. It's not free energy or levitation perfection, just the constant dance of opposing forces in a simple sculpture. I don't know if I fully know what I mean, but watching it wobble on a pillow makes the idea feel real.

Troubleshooting
If it gets off center, it's usually because the two sandwiched discs have holes that don't line up perfectly. I went back quite a few times to recenter it. When it doesn't want to move on one side, try spinning the six-sided part gently. Noise and wobble are normal – that's the magnetic energy trying to stabilize the weight. If it stops, give it another nudge or adjust the ring magnet positions slightly.
Safety
Keep fingers clear of pinching points between the strong ring magnets. The sculpture can wobble suddenly so don't leave it where it might fall and pinch skin. Work on a stable surface even if the base is a pillow. No electricity here so no shock risk, but magnets can snap together quickly.
FAQ
Why does it wobble so much?
The combination of lifting and pulling magnets plus the weight makes it hunt for balance. The misaligned holes in the double discs add to the off-center motion.
Is this magnetic levitation?
Not really. It's more like a sculpture showing push-pull forces. True levitation needs much more precise balancing.
Can I make it spin longer?
Yes – the six-sided part likes to move once you start it. The other side is less eager but a good centered spin helps.
What does the pillow do?
It lets the whole sculpture move freely so you can see the magnetic energy working without a rigid base fighting it.
